Student Revision Guide

Speed reading is about gaining the key words from a piece of text by letting your eyes scan over the words. You can scan over the text 5 times, for 1-2 seconds. After each scan you should write down any words you have noticed (try to notice verbs). Speed reading can be done on your own and it is good to work with someone else so you can see what words you have both noticed. Once you have scanned and looked through what you have written down you then try to make sense of the story / text / passage. It is amazing what you can pick up in five seconds.

Scan Reading

Advantages

  • Pick up lots of information quickly.
  • Become more interested in reading it once you have scanned.
